Building a wiki-survey web app with UNDP

From initial research to delivery, I worked in a team of three-four designers to design a new web app which allows users to run their own customised wiki-surveys (similar to that of Pol.is), a type of survey where participants add their own, and vote on other opinions, based on one question. The results would include outputs of cluster analysis to produce unique opinion groups.

I helped to deliver an MVP in six months and the product has been used with both UNDP and other partners to conduct various conversations, capturing and analysing user opinions, providing valuable insights through opinion clusters and demographic data.

Discovery

I conducted both primary and secondary research with the team to determine user and business requirements, and ultimately the feasibility, desirability, and viability of the product. Methods included: semi-structured interviews, competitor analysis.

Defining the product and user requirements

I consolidated insights into personas and used the MoSCoW method to develop user requirements. From here the team and I began to develop and finalise user and site flows.

Ideation and development,

From site flows the team and I sketched out ideas to visualise and develop the interface, and think about how each screen would work together. We had many discussions about our different ideas, referencing the user requirements and thinking about the user experience to make decisions. From here we were able to develop wireframes and increase fidelity.

We developed a base design system in Figma, which was developed concurrently while designing and developing high fidelity prototypes.

I held weekly status meetings where as a team we checked in to shareback progress as a team and with the exec lead. I also had frequent meetings with the web developer to keep an open dialogue, ensure our designs were feasible, and co-ordinate on the build.
